Coaching Staff

Mark Waterman | Zisson Family Assistant Coaching Chair

Mark Waterman joined Brown as the Zisson Family Assistant Coaching Chair in 2024. Waterman came to College Hill after serving in assistant and associate head coaching roles at Tufts and Holy Cross, as well as a head coach at the club level.

In his latest stop before Brown, Waterman served as the Associate Head Coach at Tufts University for four seasons from 2020-2023. While leading recruiting efforts on a national level, he helped lead the Jumbos to the 2021 NESCAC title, and three NCAA Division III Tournament appearances, including an Elite Eight berth in 2021 and a Sweet 16 appearance in 2023. The four-year stretch was his second stint with Tufts after previously serving as an assistant coach during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. The 2016 season was especially significant for Waterman as he and his fellow coaches were selected as the NCAA DIII National Staff of the Year after Tufts won the Division III national title.

Between his two stints at Tufts, Waterman spent two seasons on staff at Holy Cross, guiding the Crusaders to the Patriot League Tournament final in 2017.

He also served as a head coach for the Boston Bolts from 2018-2023, piloting the ECNL squad to the 2019 US Club Soccer Massachusetts state championship title, a second-place finish in the ECNL Northeast Division and an ENPL Nationals qualification.

As a collegiate student-athlete, Waterman was a three-time all-conference selection at Denison University in Ohio, and served as team captain during his senior season in 2014.

Steven Tekesky | Assistant Coach

Steven Tekesky joined Brown as an assistant coach in June 2024. He joined the Bears after a standout collegiate career at West Virginia University, as well as one season playing in the professional ranks.

Tekesky played one season of professional indoor soccer in 2022-23 for the Kansas City Comets of Major League Indoor Soccer, starting in three games.

As a student-athlete, Tekesky was a five-year member of the men’s soccer team at West Virginia University, where he was a three-time All-MAC honoree and earned three selections to both the Academic All-MAC and Academic All-Big 12 teams. A goalkeeper, he ranked 14th nationally in minutes and ranked second in the MAC with six clean sheets as a junior in 2019. That season, he was also named the MAC Tournament MVP and helped lead the Mountaineers to their first ever MAC Tournament title. He served as a team captain over his final two seasons and helped pilot WVU to its first Elite Eight berth in 30 years as a grad student in 2021.

Tekesky graduated from West Virginia with a bachelor’s degree in sports management in 2021, and went on to earn his master’s in sports management from WVU.

D'Shon DeGannes was hired as the Operations Coordinator for Brown men's soccer in September of 2023.

Prior to his professional career, DeGannes played three seasons at Fairleigh Dickinson University where he helped the team to two NEC tournament championships and a regular season title. DeGannes spent his freshman season at the University at Albany where the team won the America East championship.
